The SMD series spindle motors are air cooled, asynchronous, sinusoid, 3 phase 4-pole motors with squirrel-cage rotor and digital position transducer, designed to satisfy the requirements of the machine-tool application especially when high speed machining is involved.
The various models cover the 5.5 to 22kW range of continuous power ratings with nomional speed of 1500 rpm and maximum speeds up to 10,000/12,000 rpm, and the 5.5 to 11 kW range with nominal rotation speed of 750 rpm and maximum speed of 10,000 rpm. The windings permit star/delta commutation to enable extension of the constant power range.

All motor models are also available in a special version with hollow shaft for tool coolant
